BALTIMORE — See famous images of 20th century photography at The Baltimore Museum of Art - and then submit your own picture for consideration in an online exhibit.
The museum is hosting a show called “Looking Through the Lens: Photography 1900-1960,” through June 8, featuring 150 prints by 20th century photographers like Man Ray, Alfred Stieglitz, Dorothea Lange, Edward Weston and Gordon Parks. Visitors who are inspired by the exhibit to take their own pictures can submit their images for possible inclusion in an online show that will be called, “Looking Now: BMA Digital Photography Exhibit” on Flickr. The images must be sent in by April 14. The best images will be showcased online beginning April 23.
The museum is also showcasing body art, from 20th-century Africa to contemporary tattoos. A show, “Meditations on African Art: Pattern,” is on display through Aug. 17. A May 31 event called “Baltimore Ink: Patterns on Bodies” will include a 7 p.m. panel discussion featuring tattoo artists and experts, and an 8:30 p.m. runway show of locals showing off their body art. (Tickets go on sale April 5, available at http://www.artbma.org/ or 443-573-1701.)
In addition, BMA is sponsoring a contest for tattoo designs inspired by artwork from the museum. Submissions - which must include the title of the artwork that inspired the tattoo design - can be uploaded to the BMA’s Baltimore Ink Group on Flickr until May 12. Winners will be announced at the Baltimore Ink event.
