Frank Murphy, UTC Executive, Dies

WEST HARTFORD %26#8212; - Frank L. Murphy, the public relations chief at United Aircraft Corp. during the years when Harry Gray transformed it into the global conglomerate United Technologies Corp., died Saturday. He was 86.Murphy, a former aviation writer at the Hartford Times, worked up the public relations ladder at United and its Pratt %26 Whitney Aircraft division in the 1950s and ’60s before Gray took command of the company in 1971. Murphy soon became one of Gray’s most trusted deputies, and took a major role in the far-reaching expansion of the business.
