I want to fly to Tunisia for an independent holiday there. Can you tell me the
cheapest place from which to fly, preferably from the northwest? Gavin

Sunday Times travel expert Richard Green responds: Despite the huge
numbers of Brits that head for Tunisia for winter and summer sun breaks, the
country has yet to be properly plugged into the conventional low cost
airline network, and until someone like Ryanair or Easyjet starts up
flights, the fares available to the country are relatively steep.
If on your trip you are concentrating on Tunis and the north of the country,
then your best bet is to look at scheduled flights. British
Airways (0870 8509850) flies from Gatwick from about %26pound;125 (or with a
connecting flight from Manchester from about %26pound;221. Or Tunisair
(020 7734 76 44) flies from Heathrow. It’s a bore, but you could always,
coach or train it down to London, from where there are sometimes cheap
deals. The best way to learn of these in advance is to sign up to the
emailed newsletters of BA and Tunisair.
JumbleFly is a good tool to find out
which low cost carriers fly where, and while there aren’t any flights into
Tunis itself, it’s possible to fly to D’jerba and Monastir from several
regional airports, including Manchester.
