Director uses novel approach for romance Atonement

With “Atonement,” director Joe Wright (“Pride & Prejudice”) has created a breathtaking adaptation of Ian McEwan’s heart-wrenching novel.

Keira Knightley (“Pride & Prejudice”) and James McAvoy (“The Last King of Scotland”) are Cecilia Tallis and Robbie Turner, two young lovers from different social classes in 1930s England. Cecilia comes from a wealthy family and Robbie is the son of their housekeeper.

As Cecilia and Robbie realize their feelings for each other, their lives are torn apart by circumstance and World War II. Cecilia’s younger sister Briony misinterprets Cecilia and Robbie’s relationship and makes accusations with far-reaching effects.
