In December, we visited India. The main purpose, and the highlight of the trip, was to visit the children in two orphanages founded by Woodmont Hills Church after the 2005 tsunami. We also wanted to see this beautiful country.
We flew into Delhi and rode four hours to Agra, the city of the Taj Mahal. After touring the Agra Fort and the Taj Mahal, we went to Jaipur, where we saw the Pink City and rode an elephant to the Amber Fort! We felt like we spent a lot of time riding in our small tour bus, but it gave us a chance to see the villages and smile and wave at the people (who smiled back) when traffic made us slow down.
We loved the beautiful clothes the women wore, even when working in the fields, and enjoyed seeing many animals, including monkeys, parrots and camels.
We spent a week in the Vizakhapatnam/Vizianagaram area, where we took a day trip to the Araku Valley, and visited the Museum of Habitat with displays of tribal community life. Our host called a friend of his daughter’s at a school in the area, and he invited us for lunch!
