The nation wide anticipation for the All-American Rejects new album, When the World Comes Down, is palpable. It’s been three years since the band released their break through album Move Along, and despite an incessant touring schedule over the past three years, AAR has managed to complete their third album in time for the holiday season. When the World Comes Down will hit stores on November 18th, and will be the first time in which the band will have worked with veteran producer Eric Valentine (Queens of the Stone Age, Maroon 5). So what exactly are we to expect from the band’s new disc? For those of you who were fond of AAR’s debut album, I’m sure you were at least satisfied with 2005’s Move Along. The reason being is that not much changed sound wise between the two albums. Both were strikingly similar records filled with infectious power pop. Some critics may consider this a bad thing. But why f’ with the formula, right? With the band’s popularity at an all time high though, expectations for the upcoming disc are through the roof.
Frontman Tyson Ritter has said some pretty lofty statements about his new LP over the past couple of months, but a recent quote may top them all. “It’s what we were put on this earth to create.”
Quotes like the one above is what has helped lead to the massive build up for When the World Comes Down. A number one album and numerous radio singles are probably expected and, if the disc is any good, is a task that could very well be achieved by these four 20-somethings from Oklahoma.
I Actually did enjoy both of the band’s first two albums. They were light hearted, fun and contained well crafted pop hooks for Ritter’s soaring vocals to saturate. It seems as if the time is right though for AAR to move in some sort of new direction to keep from becoming stagnant and, before you know it, irrelevant. From what I’ve heard of the new album, it seems like that’s a point that the band is partly aware of. The first single off of When the World Comes Down, “Gives You Hell,” is a laid back pop tune that sounds quite different than the band’s previous slow down songs. It’s well paced and methodical musically, and yet vocally it’s still quite the same.
Hopefully the new album has a few more surprises in store for us when it comes out next month. To listen to “Gives You Hell” head over to
